I am a mother of nine. From my first marriage I had five children, and I married them off on my own. My eldest son was niftar two months after his own wedding. For years my husband was ill and could not work, so the whole parnassa of the house rested on me alone. Last Nissan he went through a small procedure and did not come home. Now my youngest is getting married in just one week. What should be a time of pure simcha is instead clouded by crushing anxiety and the painful reality of my husband's absence. I will have to walk my child to the chupah alone, as an almanah. My heart breaks that after everything we have endured, my hands are completely empty. We do not have the funds for the most basic chasuna expenses or the minimal essentials to help the young couple set up a simple bayis ne'eman. The weight of my previous debts makes it impossible to manage this alone.
